Membership in Subterranean Strings
So there is no confusion, here's an attempt to explain how Sub-Strings membership is set up. We try to be flexible and accommodating so let us know, if you disagree with the way things are being done. (We'll be glad to explain why the guidelines have evolved.)
When a person joins, they are asked to pay $10. These dues are for 12 months. New members are considered to hold "inactive" status until they become an "active" member.
It is suggested that you come to a practice before you decide if you are interested in joining. Practices are currently held at the Thomas Township Public Works Building on Meijer Drive in Shields. We post our practice dates on our website and members are advised through email and newsletters. (Meijer Drive runs behind the Gratiot Road Meijers Store.) Practices start at 6:45. Your dues are due before you access the club's library.
An "inactive" member can become an "active" member by participating in two (2) for-pay events within a 12-month period. Since they must be able to play the tunes before they can participate in an event, it is strongly suggested that they attend practices. After you pay dues, if you regularly come to practices, and commit to playing performances with us, we will generally count any public performance as a for-pay event, even if no pay was received . (ASK if you have any questions.)
After becoming an active member, "active" status is maintained by playing in at least one (1) for-pay event every year. (Haithco jams or Snowfest performances count to “maintain” active status but do not count as a "for pay" event.)
Renewals:
Active members have their renewal dues waived. Inactive members must play $10 annually to have their dues renewed. If they agree to be an email member, their renewal will cover 18-months.
Active members:
A member may find that they cannot or are not interest in playing with the group in "for-pay" events. They are welcome to continue their inactive status indefinitely as long as they pay $10 annually (or every 18-months if they renew as an email member.)
